Hi all

Searched around a bit b4 posting this so hope I am not duplicating too badly....

I've been having some problems with my SATA Max array that I bought from Promax. So I gave them a call today (6/19/08). To my surprise, they have gone out of business. Dana, who I believe to be a former employee, did pick up the phone live and we had a very nice talk about my drive and his former company.

I went with Promax because I thought they were the best combination of quality and affordability that I could find. I still do. I am bummed they had to shut down. This illustrates once again, that competing on price is nothing more than a race to the bottom.

On the upside, someone (Dana) did pick up the phone at the number listed on their website (which is still live btw). I hope they are able to resurrect in some fashion.

But for now be warned....Promax is out of business......

Actually, they've been out of business at least a month.

Too bad that Charles McConathy's company went this way. He started Micronet, I believe, and then ProMax.

I remember in the early days of the Internet when Charles was explaining a new concept called RAID.

Not many VARs left.

VARs almost extinct

VARs almost extinct

Dana mentioned that Promax's biggest competitor was Apple. He went on to explain that in his view, it was quite competitive for Promax as a VAR, to go up against Apple in the hardware arena. Too bad. I guess it's good if you are an Apple addict, as it keeps their stock price high. imo it is bad for the overall independent ecosystem though......

The first external firewire drive I ever bought for editing was a Promax drive and it barely made it through the post process of a feature film. The fan started making noise, then the drive starting unmounting itself while I was editing with it. Gee, I wonder why Promax went out of business.

But Apple doesn't do systems integration as does promax. Nor does Apple sell pro line cams and accessories

That is a kinda of surprising statement
