Billy Pilgrim
Stye in my eye
I guess since I don't have a website, I'd chronicle my progression through some film projects I'm lining up for myself.
Feature film: Tenatively titled "Next Exit" about an aspiring screenwriter who, after quitting his job, school, and being dumped by his girlfriend, decides to skip town to experience new things and become a writer. It's a coming of age comedy, and a little sad too, like a French comedy.
Short films: There's a film contest being held by Bakersfield's local publisher, noveltown.net, where you adapt a scene or scenes of local writer N.L. Belardes' novel "Lords: part One" which is based from a local legend of powerful men (politicians, publishers) having sexual relationships with 13 year old boys.
Later this month is the local independent film festival. I have a couple projects for this: An adaptation of my friend Andrew price's one-act play about three guys sharing an apartment, while two of them, both disconnected from reality, and living in tgheir own worlds, drive the "normal" guy insane. "Roommates". It's a comedy. We've actually been trying to make this into a film for 6 months. We made three very short versions of it for the "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" FX contest, which we decided not to enter. We felt the story worked better being 20 minutes long, instead of 5.
"Morbid Curiosity" tentative title. It's a short about an anti-social recluse who, during a zombie invasion, allows an injurmed man into his home, and ultimately befriends him, until he dies. But even after death, he won't let his only friend go. Once the man is re-animated as a zombie, the recluse ties it to a chair and continues talking to it.
Right now, everything is in the scripted stage, except "Roommates". We're filming next weekend.
"Next Exit" is about 106 pages long so far. Teh first draft is near complete. After I finish I'll start trimming the fat. I won't be filming it soon, but it's in the working. I have some actors already. I was going to make a different feature script this past summer, but, I don't know, we did some rehearsals, and the material didn't sound right. And I had done about five drafts of it. I had a gut feelign, which told me right now wouldn't be the right time to do it. Maybe a few years down the line. I was thinking of making a fake trailer for it, a la the Coen Bros. with Blood Simple.
As for "Morbid Curiosity" (bad title, but hey, I thought of it just now for the sake of calling it something) I only have an outline, but it's one fo the shorts I'm most excited about doing. I should probably be out of my zombie phase by now, but I'm always trying take a different approach at it. It should be fun. It'll be a dark comedy.
Now, should I do something for Drama fest? Maybe...
