Projecting using the HVX200

I'm going to be projecting a student project shot on the HVX200 in March. We looked at our first dailies today (Z1U since I don't have the HVX yet) off of an SD-DVD. The image was squeezed 4:3 and looked really really bad. On the production monitor, it looks wonderful, but something about the exhibition system degrades the quality of the image. We'll be mixing Z1U 1080i60 with HVX 1080i60.

These were mere dailies so it wasn't really a big deal. The raw footage looks beautiful. But come March, the producer wants to exhibit the movie using an HD projection system. We want to put our best foot forward.

I was amazed by the HVX footage at the Egyptian Theater ResFest demonstration. Does anyone remember what projector they used? I ran a couple of searches but got no luck.

I guess my plan is to use the HVX as a deck and project off of a 1080i projector. If anyone has a better plan, please, fill me in =].

You could use a laptop like the new MacBooks, or a desktop with a DVI out, connected to a DVI/HDMI input equipped projector, this way you will not lose any quality through an analog connection, like VGA or component, or worse: S-Video and composite.
If you set your Mac to mirror display mode, it will project your DVCPRO HD Quicktime movie natively, straight out of Quicktime player, no need for FCP or a camera.
Just make sure its at 1280x720, because most projectors in the sub 5K category only go up to 1280x720 res.

Wow, that projector IS cool! They seem to have come a long way since I last looked! thanks Mr. Blonde!

Just checked B&H and they have it for $1,759.95 with free shipping AND a coupon for a free [spare] bulb!!! Not bad!

A friend of mine owns a Z4 and god damn! It is just crystal clear and exteremly rich in its colors.

I honestly can't stand seeing a film in a movie theater with anything but a high end texas instruments projector, such as the one they were using for star wars.

Seriously though after picking up my HVX and paying for my G35, I'm getting a Z4 as well, once you've experienced a good home theater you'll never want a stinkin plasma or lcd again.
