Projecting DVX100 Letterbox 16:9 on the big screen!

Hey,

I am going into our local theatre tomorrow to watch a short screener of a feature film we shot just to get an idea visually of what we can expect. My question is in regards to the "black bars". Wil they be viewable or cropped out? I have a little text track on the lower left of the screen should I ensure that this is within the 16:9 safety margins and not on the black bars so it doesn't get cropped out?

I have never done this before so I am just wondering.

do you know what kind of projector and lens they have at the theatre where they're gonna show your film?

To answer for Como, we're not sure exactly of the projector and lens, but this is an excerpt straight from the site's FAQ.

What are the technical guidelines for our film?

Your film must be submitted on SD mini DV NTSC (it does not have to be the exact one we've provided). We project in a 4:3 aspect ratio and widescreen films must be letterboxed.

Sorry to hijack your thread imageone!

I would say it will show black bars if you shot letterbox, but if you shoot squeeze and with a wide angle I think that would be scope, don't quote me on it but I remember Randy from EVS said something like it.
