project storage

If my question has been addressed elsewhere please accept my apologies . . .
What I am wondering is, what my storage requirements will be when I off-load my files from the P-2 cards? What prompts my question is, during a recent visit to Medea's website, it appeared to me that I will need faster external storage devices for DVCPro or HD, especially if, for example, have dual or multiple streams on the timeline. I am really looking forward to this solid state camera (and am somewhere on the top half of Rush's list), but want to be prepared to edit when the time comes. I presume Adobe will have a software solution by then, in the mean time I am struggling with the Avid Express DV HD learning curve. Thanks.

DVCPRO-HD takes up about 4x as much room as DV. It's about 1 gigabyte per minute, so a modern 300-gb hard disk will store five hours of footage.

Unless you're working in 720/24p, in which case you get about 2.5 minutes per gig (or, on that same 300-gb drive, you're looking at about 13.5 hours of footage).

Barry, thank you. (maybe this should be moved to USLatinContent's "cheapest way into HD?" Another quick glance at Medea's models & pricing graph coupled with the info you provided confirms that my present Medea drive will only remain useful for mini-dv projects (think it will handle up to a max of 65 meg per sec), I'll need to start saving to move up to an RT3 or, gulp, and RT3X for editing dual streams. Their note on Express DV Pro HD seems to indicate two drives may be required for "dual stream real time" effects, if I'm understanding that correctly. What a cool piece of equipment (the HVX), I'm looking forward to your next book!
