PROJECT: RANT - semi finalists in the YouTube Nextup Contest (check it out)

HA - you guys are ridiculous.
:)

By the way - that Justine episode was list with nothing more than a 500 LED light if I remember correctly... that and the trusty ol' HPX.

I know what you mean about getting a rougher look, Chip - and I don't mean this as a joke - we started out TRYING to get a rougher look, and found that it's actually kind of hard to do when you're used to working really hard to make stuff look decent.

Still working on that one.

Oh - and by the way, I should give props where props are due - the Producers of "Holy Hell" are the ones who really opened the door for us in terms of Austin actors... too funny that someone asked about that last night. Now I feel really bad for missing that screening - I'll catch it next week.

If you liked "The Shield" then you'll love 'Project Rant'

Alright - that's a slight exaggeration...

We were thrilled to be able to work with Cathy Cahlin Ryan when we were in L.A.
Thanks to Luis Sinibaldi and the whole Fat Monster crew (this was shot in Luis's front yard)

Enjoy -

In other news, the show is still going strong - not having shot any episodes in quite a while, we had a marathon shoot last week. 15 episodes shot in 2 days. Keeping with our plan of always having plenty of episodes in the can, as of right now we have enough episodes shot to keep the show going without interruption until mid July or so.

One thing we've found is that not only audiences, but also distribution channels LOVE consistency in release schedule. Blip.tv has been a great help for us in getting the show out there, both via promotion and in opening the doors to a few other places they have relationships with - and one thing they've expressed to us is that they love that we've been able to release a new episode every week without fail. Having that consistency makes them more apt to promote the show on their site and through other channels they distribute to (Roku, etc). Something to keep in mind if you're planning on online series - definitely shoot your episodes up front before you start releasing, and leave yourself plenty of runway to shoot more if you decide to continue the show.

In the past year we only took off 3 weeks total - thanksgiving, christmas and new years week. But that was planned, and not due to any sort of production problem (mainly because we figured viewership would be low those weeks and we could use a break).

EDITED TO ADD:
A piece of Rant trivia that only DVXuser members can appreciate - the episode above features not only Justine Bateman, but also Fat Monster's Luis Sinibaldi's bathroom.
We couldn't have done that shoot without the help of those guys.

Long time fan...LOVE this stuff..... great job gentleman and congratulations!

Now...about that bathroom....Pink tile? Really? Who was your decorator, Mark Johnson?

Well this was a nice surprise - thanks to the people at NewTeeVee.com, Project Rant was included in a curation deal with YouTube,
which means the show is now being promoted on the front page of YouTube (just for 24 hours).

That may not sound like much... but don't ever underestimate the power of discovery for your shows.
In just the past couple of hours that little bit of exposure has made our YouTube views go up significantly.

We'd never really worked on leveraging YouTube much...
so the show they linked to only had a few hundred views as of yesterday (I think).
As of now it has over 32,000 views in the past few hours.
(that screen cap was taken 2 hours ago...showing over 12,000 views)

Also, thanks to this little bit of exposure YouTube has now invited us to be listed in their show listings: http://www.youtube.com/shows

Pretty cool.

A quick followup to show the power of easy discovery ... being on the front page of youtube garnered that one episode of Rant over 160,500 views in one day.
Our number of subscribers also seems to have gone up significantly - I don't remember how many we had at the end of Friday, but we're now just below a thousand.

This all came from getting some decent press and forging relationships with those outlets (blip.tv, newteevee.com and others like them).

Just a quick update -
The show is now listed in YouTube's shows section... and being promoted on rotation when you go the main page
(of the shows section, i mean... youtube.com/shows).

It's pretty cool to see your show's banner up there with stuff like 'Easy to Assemble' and 'Red vs. Blue.'

I haven't updated this in a while because there hasn't been much to update... the show is still going strong, with some nice surprises along the way. We recently got another great bump in traffic on YouTube thanks to their promotion of the show - and this week episode #75 went online. So still chugging along after over a year now, never having missed a week's release.

Which brings me to the point of this post - we have built up a good fan base, the show's viewership has been climbing, and we'd like to see the show continue and grow for as long as possible.

The other side of that is that we also have many other projects we want to get off the ground. In the past few months we have gotten a few other filmmakers that we know to produce episodes for us, and they've turned out great. So now, we're opening that up for anyone who would like to contact us (well, not anyone, just you guys here on 'user). :)

So if you might be interested in producing an episode of Project Rant - drop me a line either via PM, or email, and let me know. I can fill you in on the details - and if it seems like a good fit then we can send you loads of 'scripts' that you can peruse, and hopefully find one or more that peak your interest. We can supply you with all the graphics/music/templates you'll need.... and after that it's up to you to have fun with it.

Our hope is that with enough other filmmakers contributing to the show we can not only continue the series indefinitely, but increase the quality as well. It's a lot of pressure trying to produce an episode a week... and it leads to days like yesterday (where we shot 6 episodes in one day). If we can get various filmmakers shooting one or two episodes and takeing a bit more time on them, hopefully the entire series will keep on growing - both in viewership and quality.

So - there you have it.
Want to be part of Project Rant? Drop me a line.

I'm looking forward to it.

So it looks like we got some decent promotion on YouTube recently, and the views haven't slowed down at all... there has been a decent amount of comments coming in and I just did a quick peek at Twitter to see if anyone was commenting on the show. We get a lot of bad comments and a lot of good comments... and then every now and again we get one really sticks out. Here's the latest one I just saw:

www.projectrant.com is possible my new #LOST

hahahaha
made my day.

A fan of the show took it upon himself to remix one of our episodes.
I thought it was pretty funny that someone would take the time to do this.
Made my day.
