progressive footage

Hi,

I've hacked my GH1 some days ago. It shows 0.0 firmware and some experimental footage shows up +23 Mbps recording but the upper field dominance appear in the properties inspector on FCP stating that the clip is not P but i !!!

What have I done wrong in the hacking?
Thanks

being a PAL GH1 user myself i went for lpowell's 75Mbps GH1 Peak Performance Patch

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?235523-75Mbps-GH1-Peak-Performance-Patch

it gives great detail and is very stable

25p isn't as vital for me as it is to NTSC 24p GH1 users as PAL users don't have to worry about pulldown and such.

if you must have 25p id try the new Blackout-Powell Native 24/25p Patch linked below.

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?243813-Blackout-Powell-Native-24p-Patch-GH1-FTW!!!

remember the GH1 codec will only push the bitrates up high if the scene needs it, if you are seeing bitrates of 23Mbps it could be thats all the scene your shooting requires.

do 3 test clips, all 10 seconds long...

1. branches of a tree with lots of blowing leaves and movement.

2. a clear blue sky with some clouds and a house rooftop.

3. gravel covered road or grass.

then compare the bitrates of the 3 and you should see some change.

the blue sky doesn't need much bitrate to capture it beautifuly.

the blowing leaves/branches & gravel or grass will push to higher bitrates.

hope this helps.

I think i'm right in saying that without having 25p native checked, the footage is progressive but it's contained in a 50i wrapper - which I imagine is why you're getting interlaced and field dominance info

Yup that's right. It's 25p, but wrapped in a 50i wrapper. It is effectively progressive though. I'd love to really know how that's possible actually.

Totally misread the Opening Post, apologies for my previous pointless post  i shouldn't come on here until my eyes are fully awake!

I've checked native 25p. So I can only assume something's wrong right? With 25p checked it should record only one field and show no field dominance in the FCP clip properties right?

mr bill is absolutely correct.

If 25p"N" is checked, then the footage is NOT wrapped in a 50i wrapper. It is fully progressive and will show no field dominance, as there are no fields.

When native is unchecked, the 25p is still progressive, but not native and therefore is wrapped in a 50i wrapper, with a field dominance of either upper or lower - I forget which.

You've got your hack settings wrong - Go back into PTool and make sure you have selected the native patch, and than save that patch to your card, do another firmware update, and you should be GO!
