Program to record my computer screen display into an AVI?

Hello, I have a question regarding if their’s any programs available to record the display on my computer screen into an avi so it can be edited later. I have a RADEON video card which enables me to connect out with svideo or composite to my TV but the signal is really weak.

Is their any programs (hopefully free) available that will record what is displayed on my computer screen into an AVI?

I can remember Corel has something like this inside their CorelDraw suite. It's called Corel Capture. IIRC this can record to avi. You should have a fast harddisk though.
Of course CorelDraw is not free. But you can get an OEM version at ebay for very little money. And you don't need the latest version. I bought the CorelDraw Graphics Suite 11 on eBay for around $40 not so long ago.
I chose the manual install and did not install Corel Capture since I figured I won't need it, so thats why I can't tell you for sure.
