i checked imdb.com first. then when i registered it as an LLC, i was shown other companies with similar names. then, when i filed the DBA (Doing Business As) I had to list 3 names in order of preference in case one was taken. here's what i've got:

LLC is registered as Sabi, LLC.
DBA is registered as Sabi Pictures

I also checked IMDB, no sign of the name being taken, but still arent their little guys like us out there that havn't got their names out on IMDB?

production names are tricky. All you can really do is search all over the best you can. When I did my movie Damaged Goods there were only a couple titles on the imdb way, way back in the 30's and 40's, but were AKA movies about venarial disease and such. Then there was one with the same title that was newer, but it was an "adult title" so I figured I was OK. By the time my movie made distribution I think there was at least one more movie with the same title.

It's really hard to protect a title or not have some overlap somewhere in the world. Do your best to search and then just make the movie.

I got a production name now, I just have to register it, how did you guys register your names? so many websites to do this on, its hard to pick one.

Are you talking about a production company, movie title or what? For movie title I would check with IMDB. Also you might also try Trademarks or Copyrights and do searches there. Also there is google. With any of these four you should be able to come up with something or not. Doing a copyright search ruled out a chosen name for music company even though I did not find it anywhere else.

opps, you posted while I was typing.

I personally use namebargain.com but a lot of other people use godaddy.com // I also host mine seperate from my registration but most of these sites also have hosting options available.

godaddy.com
or networksolutions.com are two that I've used and seem reasonable, but there are a lot. You can even use places like yahoo.

Well, I'd say a Production name should be placed under copyright correct? I checked those sites, and they themselves aren't even sure wether its a trademark, or under copyright, lol.

Godaddy and such sites register domain names, I never knew they registered a single production name.

A production name, as in company would actually be a Trademark not a copyright. The reason to look under copyright is to see if someone else is copyrighting material under that name. If there is someone else already using that name, but it is not trademarked it will be very difficult to trademark.

right, I get it now.

No one is using the name, so it should be okay for me to trademark it, register it.

Thanks alot fellas.
