F3: production monitor for F3

i’m looking for advice or experiences with the F3 and older production monitors like one of the sony 2050 or jvc v20l. i think it will be fed out of a shogun or BMVA 4k, but occasionally straight from the camera. are there any compatibility issues or potential problems?

Seems like most SDI monitors play well with the F3. The SDI out can either be clean or have the camera display info passed along. The "a" SDI is always clean. We often daisy chain the set monitor out of an Alphatron EVF, so a pass thru signal out of a Shogun or similar should theoretically work, as well.

I don't quite understand your question. The F3 is no different than any other camera that puts out an SDI signal . That's probably why there have been so few responces. So it depends on your budget and what your other needs are - size, portability, battery or AC, do you need waveform monitor , peaking or other tools etc.

Because the F3 was designed a while ago, back when there weren't as many HDMI output options, I'd highly recommend getting a monitor with HD-SDI inputs - and of course coming HD-SDI out of the camera.

just wondering if there might be issues with the 3G versus HD SDI inputs and outputs, etc. 1680 res on the monitor vs 1920.... trying to avoid surprises

I haven't had any issues yet with using my F3 with HDMI monitors/recorders (other than being limited to 8bit if using an HDMI recorder)

I think you may run across some possible 'gotchas' when shooting 24p (as opposed to 25p) with the F3

I've had no issues with my F3s in 23.98, but we have never gone out to recorders...only to monitors and only thru SDI.

No issues with internal recording at 23.98, but I've had to occasionally deal with 'workarounds' when outputting to a PIX or Gemini recorder and simultaneously wanting to use a Z-Finder EVF and feed to a monitor or a quad split with other models of cameras. (I think the Gemini system worked better -- we needed to jump through more hoops when using the PIX)
