Yeah,
Kinda forgot to mention sound. For Weddings I will probably just look at a pair of wireless lavalier mics. For the independent film definately looking into a boom/ mic combo and recording onto DAT or a sampler. Although can I sync those with the timecode on the video?
So it sounds like an HVX-200, decent tripod (that will hold 75lbs found one at amvona.com for $250), and a set of lavalier mics is bout all I need to start the wedding videos. This of course means recording to Mini-Dv tape for the wedding videos. No sense in recording a wedding on P2 right?
Then when I decided to greenlight some independent films (feature or short) I can purchase the P2 cards and a storage option (or just the cards and offload to DVD via laptop if I need to keep costs down) and with the P2 cards I'll get a taste of professional filmmaking with having to stop and offload.
All said sounds like a good plan to me. Initial 5-6K investment (especially if I get a NIB camera off ebay with warranty ) that will allow to do wedding videos to generate some income and then in about a year I will be able to purchase the storage options to allow full feature productions.
So aside from the mics, tripod for the crane , and the camera itself, any other equipment I'll need?
Leaning towards the Mac Pro intel desktop with quad processors cause most likely I'll edit at home on the desktop (and use the laptop just to port the P2 cards over to DVD) . Anyone know if a 1st generation 500mhz G4 titanium powerbook can off load P2 cards to a dvd? I switched out the drive and put the superdrive in it, so it will burn the dvds, just curious if there are resolution limits or PCMIA slot limits or what not?
Thanks everyone,
Tim
