Processing Power for Pro HD

Okay, so this new camera with JVC's repackaged HDV is not supported by NLEs as yet, but can anyone make an educated guess as to what kind of system will be needed to edit 720/24p smoothly, given that it will have a GOP of 6 frames (as opposed to 12/15 on the Z1) at a lower data rate than DV?

At the moment I'm running FCP on a dual 877. According to Apple, requirements for DVCPRO HD = 1GHz or faster single or dual processors and 1GB of RAM.

For a lot of people like me, who have systems around or below that requirement, this is an issue. To get up and running with the HVX I'm going to need to invest in a new system, but if I could edit the JVC footage with what I've got... well, that would be a deciding factor (DVCPRO would be nice, but the JVC may win on lens/form)

Anyway, an educated guess?
 
This camera is so huge I don't see who would want to use it. Maybe TV studios, but I had expected something more decently sized. Sorry JCV, messed up again for me.

Like it was just said, this isn't a big camera ( maybe the lens making's it a little longer. take a look at the pictures again. A tv studio wouldn't want it. ton's of event videographer's would.... :thumbsup:

Funny how different one see things. To me this is finally a prosumer camera that looks like it´s´ergonomicaly good to use for handheld work, as opposed to the Sony´, Panasonic etc. XL2 came close.
 
I suppose it's the lens and the real size wasn't clear to me. In any case many of us need cameras that won't be too easy to otice. If you make a documentary you do't want to be the center of the attention, and that's why an XL2 is no good. I am sorry the lens would be that large since I will probably never change lens on a camera.

If you are using a FCPHD, for HD the minimum would be a dual 2.0 G5 with 2GB RAM. If you plan on also using Motion you might want to add another 2GB RAM and at least an Nvidea GeForce 6800 (256MB memory). The 2.5 G5 has a much faster bus and is a better choice if you can afford it.

Thanks Chuck - sounds like you're speaking from experience... so the minimum specs listed on Apple's site are way below the level you'd want to operate on.

I would have thought the requirements for DVCPROHD & JVC's implementation of HDV would have quite different requirements... but I'm obvioulsly no expert. Looks like I'm gonna have to try and flog off that G4...

I thought the AXP HD 5.1.2 took care of all the new HD and frame rates. Also from the pics it seems like the new JVC is a good size. Ive always thought the dvx was a lil to small but the new 200 looks like its the right size.[font=&quot]
