problems with new dvx100b

I know about 3 new dvx100b that has the same problem. Red spot warning with x, while recording. that means the cylinder head is dirty. It happened with 3 brand new cameras after 70 hours. When you playback the casette, you see black lines on the frame, half of the information is missing. but when you playback the cassete in other camera it looks o'k
Did anyone of you had the same problem...?

Hi Harel,

I have the same problem too...do we have to send the cameras for servicing? I freaked out the first time i played out the cassette on my dvx. Any updates for this problem?

Based upon the experience of others here, an early occurrence of dirty heads is typically caused from using tapes with incompatible lubricants, i.e. panasonic (dry lube) and sony (wet lube). The result is goolube and dropouts.
Also, you might want to consider using your camera for recording only to get more mileage out of you head. Use another cam for capture and playback.

This happened to me around 50 hrs. with my 100A. I sent my camera to be serviced in L.A.
They did a great job, checked my camera out completely and returned it within a week.

It happened to me after about 7 hours. I ran a cleaning tape for about 5 seconds and I haven't seen the Red X since.

Same here. New DVX100a, red X within a couple weeks of shooting, ran tape cleaner, fixed itself and haven't had a problem in the last year and a half.

I've got 140 hours on my heads, and seem to get that red x every 50 hours or so. I run the tape cleaner for about 5 seconds or so, back to normal.

Great! Thanks guys for the info...will try using the cleaning tape and hope it works for mine too! Hope that red x doesn't appear when i shoot tomorrow...it's damn distracting man...

Be careful using the tape cleaners. I would advise using them only when the red symbol shows up onscreen. Over-using a cleaner tape can wear down your heads and do more damage than good.

Same stuff here, NEW DVX100A 40 hours on it, red sign appears, and disappears the footage OK when played on other cam, it was impossible to play the tape in that moment on my DVX, after few try I get the footage with bars, and after a while the bars disappears.
