Problems with ML ans new 5d mkiii?

Has anyone heard of canon blocking ML on their latest versions of the mkiii?

Yes. As far as I know it's true. But I don't know what the cut-off date for manufacture of cameras that can still load it is.

Someone at Canon was wearing their Bad Idea Jeans that day.

You can revert to firmware v1.23 or v1.13 to use ML.

Yep.... 1.23 + ML aug 7th or aug 10th is still working like a charm. I wouldn't update that firmware for anything right now. There's no reason what so ever to do so.

Do you know if you can downgrade to 1.23 if I get a new camera with a more recent firmware

One guy reported using EOS Utility to downgrade to 1.23 and was succesful. So you might give that a go...

I haven't purchased yet. That's why I was wondering—to know if I could count on having ML Raw as an option if/when I do.
