Problems with Ex1 Remote

We have a new EX1 and are having troubles getting the remote to work. We checked the battery and turned it on in the menu on the camera as the manual instructs.

Still it does not work. Am I doing something wrong or is it broken?

The remote must be in front of the lens.
Also, this menu option turns off every time to power cycle thr EX1.
This is probably a safety feature.
