Problems with dvx100b

I recently received my dvx100b from bluestripephoto and was wondering about some things. When I opened the box everything was there except the lens cap strap. What was most suspicious to me was the fact that the only paper item in the box was the dvx manual. Now I dont really care much for all the promotional crap, but this would mean that the box was not factory sealed and was opened at some point. Another concern is all the Japanese writting on the camera, the battery and even the cassette tape case. The info is also in English, but it seems to me like the main language is Japanese. It might be that I was fooled into buying a Japanese version and not the US. To top things off, when I aim the camera straight down and then up I hear this noise like something's loose inside the camera and I dont know if this is normal, I doubt it. Anyway I would really appreciate any suggestions as to what I should do, Thanks a lot.

the noise inside the camera is normal (plenty of threads about this)...it sounds like you probably got ripped off and they gave you a Japanese version. On the box, is there another letter after DVX100B? My camera's box (an American version) says DVX100BP. I know that 100BE is the European version, but I don't know the letter designation for Japan.

I got mine used, so I can't speak to the packaging. I don't know if there is such a thing as a lens cap strap for this camera. The noise is normal, and has been mentioned many times here at dvxuser.

Sounds like you got a gray market camera...the pitfalls of not buying from an authorized dealer...

Bwahahahaha...it's been awhile since I've seen a rattle in the camera post...

Thanks everyone. bigbossbmp, my box also says dvx100Bp, but they could've packed it in this box. Should this be on the actual camera, the model on the camera right above the serial number is only dvx100b, should it also include the p.

yes, it should include the p...

There most definitely should be a warranty card inside along with some precautionary flyers about operating the LCD and Firewire port. There also should be a form to redeem the DVX book and Magic Bullet software.

I stand corrected. I checked my box out in the garage and, sure enough, it's got a "p" too. I know it's american...passed the rebate test, etc.

Everything seems to work fine in the camera though, Could I encounter problems for not having the US version? I guess I'll have to return it. Thanks everyone.

I don't think you'll be able to return it. It's a grey market camera, and the company will do EVERYTHING in thier power to not give any money back.

It's not really a bad thing, though. So what... you've got japanese and english letters on your camcorder. It doesn't effect what you can do with it, and it doesn't make it a lower quality camera (at least not to my knowledge).

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks rcbrown23, you're right maybe I should just keep it, I just posted a new thread. I think if there's no difference in the quality and what I can do with it I should just keep it. If I do need to return it I'll just have to go through my credit card. I bought it from bluestripephoto for 2650, do you think it was worth it?
