Problems with DVX 100A and Edition

 I use Pinnacle Edition 5.5 on a windows XP platform for editing footage shot with my DVX100A.I encounter the following problem when digitizing:
If the time between the edit out of the last clip and the edit in of the next is less than 10 seconds, no problem. If this time period is more than 10 seconds, the camera is advanced to a position exactly 10 seconds before the edit in of the next clip. It is then put into play mode and advanced up to the point where digitizing is supposed to start, i.e. at the edit in mark, only it does not. Instead the camera is advanced to 10 seconds before the next clip and the next and the next....
If I interrupt the digitizer about 3 seconds before the edit in of the next clip and then restart the digitizer the clip is digitized correctly.
Pinnacle have not been able to help me. I am stumped. Anybody out there with some solutions/advise?:undecided

Maybe it has something to do with the codes on the tape. If there is a gap on the tape and has started a new timecode, Liquid often gets lost: it has to be one code.

The only thing I can think of as a quick solution is to simply play the tape and while you're watching press the record button whenever needed. That is how I usually capture my video...

Is it the timecode generator?

Is it the timecode generator?

:undecided Well the first thing I thought of was that there is a problem with the time code, but the problem is absolutely predictable. One would imagine problems with one or two tapes, but not with every tape. Could it be something to do with the way that the DVX generates the codes? Can this be altered...anybody out there with some advice?

If your running your dvx in free run there will be tc breaks everytime you stop/start recording. I've been using Edition quite alot myself and from what I can remember it didn't care much at all about breaks in the time code. You could choose how you want it to behave, ie stop recording, keep recording, keep recording and make a marker.

I'm not sure how you are capturing here, do you have a log list with time codes for each scene that you enter to edition? If that's the case and your dvx is set to free run then obviously there will be problems, since Edition will have a hard time finding the right codes.

I always captured simply by pressing play and while playing just hit rec on the parts you want.

Thanks for the contributions so far guys. John, I use Edition's Logging tool to create the logging list. The idea is to quickly run through a tape without actually capturing and then to capture without user intervention. The procedure works very well with my Sony, hence I suspect that the way that the DVX is set up may cause the problem. Is there a default setup for the way the time code is generated? I read something about a userbyte but must confess I don't understand that too well.
