Problems with 24p

I just bought a DVX 100b PAL. But I think it looks a little bit funny when I shoot 24p (scenefile 5 and 6). It seems as I am recording in slow. Should I change the standard settings or what? And too what?

I´ve seen some of the movies on this forum and they look great - so if anyone can help me - I´ll really appreciate it.

Great forum by the way - first time here... Other tips regarding 24p are more than welcome.

Thanks

NB: I think 24p is called 25 progressive format or Cine-like in the PAL-model. But you probably know more about this than I.

There is no 24p on a PAL camera. It's only 25p. They're not the same thing. But they look extremely similar.

Can you be more specific about how it looks "funny"?

The DVX 102B shoots brilliantly out of the box and unless the presets have been messed up there's no reason why 25P would look 'funny' at all.

Try slower pans and maybe invest in Barry Green's DVX book - although a bit pricey, the progressive/video side by side comparison speaks volumes (magic bullet emulations are filler though - my opinion).

I know what you are talking about and it is just seeing 25p next to 50i or real life. The stutter does make things appear to look slow unless you are used to the look. After a week of use you will love it and not even notice it.

Oesta, I will just echo what the others have said...If your not used to shooting at 24p/25p than the movement might throw you off a little. My only other suggestion would be to double check your shutter settings, and make sure you dont have the "slow shutter" (1/4) setting activated. This would be VERY obvious in movement if it was, but it would slow down your subjects as well as give them very intense ghosting. Best of luck.

Thanks for the replies... I´ll try shooting some more in 25p, change the settings and get the Barry Green Book.
