Problems upgrading to Official Firmware from 1.2 to 1.32

I've been following along with the GH1 hack info on here and now that I officially have my own GH1, I'm trying to accomplish the first step before the hack - Upgrade from 1.2 to 1.32.

I bought the camera from B&H, in their used department, but everything about the camera has been fine except this.

I downloaded the official firmware, I formatted a Delkin Pro Class 6 16GB SDHC card in the camera.

I took two photos, per instructions from the Panasonic PDF.

I then connected my camera to my Mac through USB, and told it to connect to PC.

I transferred the 1.32 software to the SDHC card in the camera by drag and drop, then ejected the camera/sdhc card from my computer properly. I powered down my camera, and removed the USB cord from the body.

I then powered the camera back up, put the dial on P, hit the green playback button. Got Please Wait on a FULL BATTERY (though I also tried the AC adapter)

Got the "Start Version Up?" Selected "Yes" then got this error message:

"Please turn camera off and then on again" Only to turn off the camera, then check the firmware to see it didn't update.

I tried two other regular SD cards that I had lying around from work. Same problem! One was a 512MB PNY, the other a 1GB Lexar.

Help?:embarasse

I didn't upgrade from 1.2 to 1.32 official first, i just patched the 1.32 and loaded it to a 512mb SD card that i had formatted in the PC to FAT (not FAT32) and the update went seamlessly, as have followup patches. I know macs leave folders on SD cards when they access them, maybe this could be an issue. Ttry updating with a PC and a clean card.

Well, I finally got it to work. Apparently the problem was using my USB connection to the camera, even though the official instructions say you can do this.

I didn't have a card reader and went fishing for one at work, but then remembered my printer had a card reader. The card reader on the printer didn't recognize my SDHC card, but it did recognize the PNY SD card. And I upgraded to the official firmware finally. Now onto the hack!

Thanks for the help. :)

I've had the same problem. Somehow, firmware files get corrupted when camera acts as USB storage device for the card.
