Problems - summary

Once again Huiy, I agree.

I can see both sides of the equation though. JVC is well aware of the problem. Ken Freed came online and stated that. JVC can't say anything until there is a difinitive solution. Did you get a chance to go check out the thread on dvinfo.net Click here? Read that completely when you get a chance and then comment (especially about JVC expecting to get a bad batch in return).

I guess the essence of my message is, make the best of it until the solution is evident.

I don't know Huiy... If you NEED to shoot without manually white balance your shots, perhaps the cam isn't for you.

STOP the insanity. Let's get off these boards and start sending these comments to JVC. Please for the love of GOD return your cameras so JVC will release a new batch sooner than later with upgraded hardware. I will purchase one from that run.

YOU are free to do so. Let other users judge the quality of their units and let them decide for themselves. If they want this kind of comment, they probably can find any SONY rep or PANASONIC rep to say so....

Have worked with dealer and JVC

Have worked with dealer and JVC

Mr. Tang:

Your experiences with the GY-HD100 and JVC are quite different from my own. I have personally found JVC and my dealer to be quite helpful. Respectfully, it seems a much more successful experience is possible than you describe.

Where are you located and with whom in JVC have you spoken?

I have read the dvinfo site int he past. and though I appreciate Ken Freeds, steve mullen's and others comments. Which are all pretty much unofficial statments. I simply don't appreciate corporate undermining of the consumers. I'm standing up for the indepenant purchasers in the industry. Not for a refund necessairily. WE all would have believed that JVC had hit the ball out of the park with the HD100. It was just too good to be true I suppose. Like I said I will purchase the hd100 when the bug is fixed via a hardware solution. I have heard salesmen speak of educational institutions and local broadcast stations ordering the camera by the dozens. This is going to burn JVC beyond anything these forums talk about. Why can't the buck stop here. Why are people still purchasing this camera everyday with a known defect. Think people think.

"Dealer or saleman seems apprehensive about burning a bridge with JVC and does not seem to question or confront them on the issue. I can only presume this because I have asked for a comment from both JVC and the dealer but to no reply. <sigh> what can you do other than cut your losses. I will purchase the camera again once a new line is released. I only sound bitter because I am. "

Mr. Tang:

Perhaps you overlooked my earlier message.

As an owner of Sony, Panasonic and JVC equipment, I have encountered rough edges from time to time but learned from experneice that with the help of my supportive dealer and perseverance on my part, just about any problem could eventually be resolved. If problem stubbornly persists, a call to manufacturer's management usually gets things going.

If, as you say, your purchased camera was exchanged more than once, by the second exchange one usually finds themselves speaking directly with the manufacturer. Three exchanges with no direct contact from a manufacturer is rather unusual - or implausible.

Exactly where are you located?

Well, I thought a lot and I'm still decided to purchase the camera. The camera I tested was OK, no split screen at 0db and very hard to find at 18dB. I was told by an official and very trustworthy UK dealer that European models are being exhaustively inspected by JVC engineers, I read some posts saying exactly the same, latter cameras have no split at all. There are no posts from European people with defective cameras recently purchased... at least I didn't read any yet.

I'm ordering mine from UK, it costs more 700€ here in Portugal. I'm also a bit concerned about this split thing but I'm believing in my UK dealer who told me nor to worry. He wouldn't tell me this if he wasn't sure about the camera's good performance.

Why do you say the issue cannot be fixed with firmware updates? When you have conflicts on your PC you update the software or the hardware? Most issues and conflicts can be fixed with software or firmware updates, why wouldn't this one be?

Europes models seem to be the exception to this. Sorry to hear of your Camera woes Huiy. I hear you brutha, I hear you.

yes the issues do sound to be minimal in Europe. I'm in North America and that's all I can say , and the rep I have spoken to is diplomatic, but unapologetic. The word as far as I can tell from JVC is mum. I will post all documentation that I have received from JVC in the coming weeks. I would encourage others to do the same. There has been nothing said in confidence, because well nothing incriminating has been said. And yes I am disapointed in the lack of advocation on my dealers part. They did put me through to one of the head honchos who was obviously in a pickle over the who situation. Although from what I gather, the blind eye tactic is working quite well for JVC and this particular dealer. I think people should remember that the dealer and manufacturer work hand in hand. When they put you through to the powers that be. This is the old Good Cop Bad cop tactic. The dealer doesn't have to come off like they ripped you off or refund your money, and the manufacturer usually in another city or country can take the flack and delay the process while your money spent is collecting interest. Because they are in kahootz this doesn't mean anything will necessairily be done. It just makes you temporatily feel like you've been empahtized with. My intention is not to slander, and it is of my humble opinion that JVC as this point at the very least owes the public an explanation. Why they don't offer one up is (from what I gather from their silence) that they simply do not want to admit screwing up. Admit it-fix it and lets all move on. I am glad to hear that at least a very few people have been marginally satisfied with the camera. But the fact remains the split screen is still prevalent in most if not all North American cameras. As for where I'm specifically located I do not wish to reveal that information on this forum. As I mentioned. North America is my ballpark. I am not a sony rep, canon rep, or otherwise. I am simply a discgruntled consumer. And though some of you may find my comments negative, it is my sort of advocation that will help remedy this problem sooer than later. You have no idea how much wasted time and money I have spent shipping units back only to receive another defective camera.
From what I gather I do not know if everyone in JVC's corporate structure are capable of handling this kind of heat. They are sealing their lips, and rubbing their rabbits foot hoping this whole situation will just go away and that consumers will settle for what they have. It's absurd for JVC to think that videographers and cinematographers of all people would not notice one side of the screen being darker than the other. Danrose2 I read your statments and I appreciate your blunt candor. But if you are indeed a professional, you have to admit that this is much more than a hiccup. This is a mishap that has cost numerous consumers thousands of dollars. If you have the time and money to invest in a camera with a defect. High five to you. I unfortunately cannot fill my swimming pool with evian, or start my fireplace with dollar bills. This is no longer a defect issue. This is a consumer issue, and became one when JVC decided to rush a camera to market without thoroughly beta testing the unit. What difference does it make to you as to where I'm located or who my dealer is or was. For all you should care, I ordered the camera from the web, from an online discount dealer. Would there be some action you could take to rectify this issue. I hope so. Because JVC (officially) aint saying jack.

In closing I know what it is like to want to justify your purchase I did too for a long time. Trust this voice of experience. Return your cameras if they have the split screen and let the water under the bridge flow on by. Before you know it, december will be here and canons new xl will be out and the z1 will have dropped in price. The bugs with the hd100 will be worked out, and then you can make a truly educated decision.

Good Luck to all of you.

I'm sorry, Hiuy, but it's hard to take your story seriously.

How many of us blow $6000 on an internet purchase of an HD camera, sight unseen? Evasive responses ("What difference does it make to you as to where I'm located or who my dealer is") and terms like, "head honcho", "Good Cop, Bad Cop", "in kahootz" unfortunately sound implausible.

Your story would come across as credible if it concluded with the purchase of a Z1, DVX or something – but it doesn’t. Respectfully, your post conveys more the impression of a manufacturer shill or an amateur on a soapbox than a real shooter with a day job.

Sorry, but this is the way your story sounds.

I am on a consumer crusade. Yes. I did blow a lot of money sight unseen. I anticipated that the camera would be defect free. My story will end likely with the purchase of another HD100. I like many things about the camera, other than the stabalization split screen issue in it's sensors. In fact I would recommend the HD100 to other professionals but only once the Split Screen defect is eliminated in North America once and for all.

I don't get too specific as I do not wish to create any defamation to my dealer, or the JVC rep who while apathetic to the issue, I really do feel sorry for as he receives dozens of complaints per day regarding the issue. Sorry if my lack for detail interferes with your motives or accumen for videography.
