Problems converting Sony A7s HDMI out to Composit AV for low-def transmission on 5.8

Has anyone been able to convert the HDMI out of the A7s to RCA Composite video (it is for transmitting over a 5.8ghz vTx) ???

I have tried 2 HDMI converters and 2 vTX/vRx, all of which work on the older NEX series of cameras, but not with either the A7s or the a5100... is there something different about the HDMI out on the new cameras? Is the "Clean HDMI" only able to be transmitted by an HD wireless system?

All I get out of one of the converters are vertical colored bars, like at the end of a TV broadcast day (way back when).

Any thoughts/suggestions/success stories would be Greatly Appreciated!

Cheers!

I have no problem transmitting both clean or "not clean" picture with hdmi2av mini converter (white box everyone on earth use).
the problem will be with shogun, as it does not downscale hdmi signal itself, so you will need to find some 4kHDMI 2 1080HDMI downscaler in order to have both 4k recording and wireless playback on the ground.

Thanks Guys for the feedback!

Well that is strange... I guess the converters I have, one of which is the HDMI2AV (but the black-boxed version), don't like the signal coming out of the camera... I will get one of the white ones and see if that works then.

What are your A7s camera settings and what 5.8Ghz gear are you running? I am using the Immersion 600mw.

Mike, That is pretty much what I did and since I have it on the DJI Ronin, the power is right there, very handy... one day there might be a Paralinx or Lightbridge right there too... just not in the budget right now :)

Have Fun Out There!

ps: This is the one I have: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0091VF4FA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

UPDATE:

So, with no info in the inter-web about the issue I was having, and the replies I got here, I figured I better check again the cables/adapter, and sure enough!

The right angle Micro-HDMI - HDMI I got through Amazon from Afunta is crap.

After manipulating every connection from the vTx to the camera, the micro adapter was the culprit. I had to hold it just so in the 2 camera's HDMI ports to make the connection so it would transmit.

So now I am on the hunt for the best fitting Micro HDMI cable/adapters (and probably a cable lock too)...

...any suggestions?

Thanks for helping me down the road to figuring this out... I always forget to check the simplest things first, DOOP!

Adios

camera in manual with s-log or cine4 PP. 200-400mWt foxtech-style 5.8. have great results with it as aerial cam btw, I would say pretty equal if not better as with red scarlet (so far you dont need 4k)..

Hey guys, for the life of me I cant get this to work with the white hdmi to av converter boxes. I have bought 2 off ebay and neither worked, have tried 2 different hdmi cables, 2 different screens and nothing, have been powering the converter boxes with a small lithium that has a usb output. is there something im missing here? does the a7s need to be in some setting?

thanks ares, im considering getting one of them, are you using it on a steadicam system or a drone? i want to use one with a ronin m for the second operator who is using the remote control. im not sure whether SD will be sufficient to check focus so now im leaning towards HDMI transmitters, perhaps the Nyrius Aries Prime

Why not use the cable lock that came with the a7s? Works great for me.

Hey Casey,
i think you misunderstood what i was on about, im trying to set up a wireless system to transmit the video from the a7s that is mounted on a steadicam, to a monitor held by a second operator who is controlling focus, pan etc with the ronin remote controller

Hey guys so i managed to get the a7s working with the small white hdmi to av converter box, my HDMI settings were wrong on the a7s, after setting HDMI Resolution to AUTO and restarting it seemed to fix the problem.
