Problems capturing with Xpress DV from AG-DVC60

Hi there everybody.

I just received my new copy of Avid Xpress DV 4.6 yesterday, and now that i've installed & registered it, i'm having trouble actually getting it to work!

I have used Avid before at college for 3 years, so i have a basic-to-good understanding of how to capture/edit/digital-cut with it, but i've never had to set-up and configure my own system so i need some help.

Can anybody out there give me any guide or help for what i need to do in order to start capturing?
I'm trying to capture from my Panasonic AG-DVC60 Camcorder, via firewire cable, into my new workstation's firewire port.

I have been able to capture before from it with "Cyberlink PowerDirector", which was able to control the camera just fine. Avid however is unable to recognise the camera at the moment, so i haven't been able to begin to edit yet.

I'd really appreciate any help that anyone can give me, i'm struggling at the moment!
Many thanks for reading this post, i hope you can help.
Regards,
Alan

Have you set up the camera in Deck Configuration? If so, what template did you choose? Also, what exactly is the problem? Why isn't it capturing? Error message?

im having a similar problem with my dvx-100...the problem is:
after configuring my deck, and then going to TOOLS-CAPTURE, the capture is unhighlighted and is not available for me to click it to capture.

I did check my firewire connection, and i did simultaneously check teh connection to see it worked on premiere as well.

sooo yah i CANT capture, anyone know what i gotta do? and yes, i did remember to turn the camera on haha

Desy, what type of project are you in? Capture is grayed out in a 24p project type. Use 23.976 with the DVX.

Hope that helps.

Chris

hey thank you very much!

Yah now i can open up the capture window, however, i still cannot capture now. It's weird, when i connected my camera/deck and using hte controls on the camera, it played back on avid in the composer window, but when using the capture window in avid to control the camera, it wouldnt work, and when i tried to capture it said that 'no deck was detected, please ensure its connected, blah blah blah'

any idea whats going on?

yup i have it set as
Firewire on No Port - Panasonic DVX100

i also tried
Firewire on OHIC (orwhatever it was) - Panasonic DVX100

i also tried the combination with the deck being 'General'

It should definitely be Firewire on OHCI. Set it back to that, choose DVX. Then in the capture window try it again.

Keep in mind that the DVX needs to be in VTR mode for Avid to recognize it.

Post back on what happens with the above.

Thanks.

Chris

ahah! beautiful, got it working now, thank you so much.......now to get the 24p to work....but no threadjacking...off to another thread!

Hi I am also having trouble capturing with a DVX100a on Xpress Pro HD.

I have the DVX100a firewired to the computer and in VCR.
And then I have the Deck Configured at (firewire/OHCI)-(Panasonic-DVX100p)

But when I go to the capture window it says there is no deck.

*As a side I captured the footage using Premiere which worked but when I bring that footage into Avid and render a quicktime reference the images are interlaced. Is this normal? I should probably capture in Avid when editing in Avid.
