Problem with vertical color smearing/HMC 150 workflow in Final Cut: HELP!

Can anyone help me figure out why my camera seems to have this weird vertical combing/smearing?

I posted a picture of it online (check out the transition between his red shirt and the background):

I'm also looking for help with the creation of a workflow to combine footage from a dvx100 in 24p advanced, and footage from an hmc150 in cine-like 24p mode, which is, I assume, a similar frame rate, but obviously a different aspect ratio, resolution, and compression type.

Thanks to anyone who can help me with either issue.

As for the shirt, it's improper interpolation of 4:1:1 color. It's been a while since I've done this in FCP, but there is a 4:1:1 smoothing filter, correct? Smooth it before upscaling (and for that matter, FCP is terrible at upscaling by itself anyway).

Then there's the head: Looks like chroma bleed to me (not chromatic abberation from the lens); I don't know of a Mac solution to this, though if you want to look into a Windows-based solution, PM me (or if anyone's curious, I'll just post here).

There are probably third party filters (Boris?) to reduce this directly within FCP, though upscaling DVX footage, or any SD footage for that matter, risk amplifying this effect... Among other deficiencies in DV video.

The smearing is in the footage from my dvx100. The footage from the HMC150 looks fine. Although I haven't quite figured out the best method for combining then two.

Thanks for your response,, and if you have any suggestions on combining footage from both cams on one edit timeline, please feel free to chime in.

Thanks for the tips,

I'll look into the 4.1.1. filter in final cut.

as for third party filters for the chroma bleed, I have no idea, but at least I have a lead, so thanks again.

Just tried the 4:1:1 smoothing filter and it worked like a charm. What exactly is the principle behind that filter, if you don't mind me asking?

And thanks again. It's not perfect, but it looks a hell of a lot better.

Sorry for asking about the 4:1:1 color interpolation thing. Obviously a bit much to be explaining in a thread like this. I looked it up on Wikipedia and got much more information than I was bargaining for. Still, it's always good to know more about tech. The school I went to wasn't much for that aspect of the game, so I find I'm constantly playing catch-up.

Thanks again
