Problem with rode videomic pro

Um, not sure if this is the correct place for this thread, but anyway...

I seem to be having a problem with the switch on the rode VMP. (it's hard to explain, I'll try my best)
The top switch (the one switching between off/normal/high pass) has been giving problems since yesterday. Basically, it goes like this:

starting out in the 'off' position, I slide it to 'normal' and the mic doesn't turn on. I slide it further to 'high pass' and it turns on and works just fine. Now, from 'high pass', I slide it BACK to 'normal'. Now, the mic turns on and works fine.

Now this isn't a huge issue as the mic is still working fine, just that the switch doesn't seem to be working optimally. Does anyone know what's causing this or have experienced this before?

RØDE has an excellent warranty... the switch may be bad, but I'm sure they'll be able to fix or replace it quickly.

Thanks. I went to the shop I got it from and they did a replacement. So all's well now. New one works fine. Not sure if it'll happen again though. The Rode's build quality isn't exactly confidence inspiring. :P

You got a bad one. It happens. Even with the best of companies. Rode is no exception. They are a good company, hundreds of thousands of people are happy, you just happened to get a " 4:59pm Friday before a holiday when that switch tech was sick" mic.

I realize you think your confidence is shaken......but when it comes down to it, do you know of a company that is perfect? If not, then bad-mouthing Rode may not be as objective as you think. You-know-what happens....pick yourself up and move on, it does no one any good to say what you did. The replacement does what you want, right? They replaced it, right? They didn't tell you to go pound sand, right?

Oh no no. I'm not bashing RODE at all, I apologise if it came off that way. I absolutely love the audio quality i get from it. But you have to admit, the build quality isn't the best thing about the mic. Especially the wire and battery door. I understand that things like this happen...most likely it is just a bad copy. RODE must be pretty sure of their products to give a 10 year warranty, after all :D

One trick to use is, when you're going quickly from shot to shot with the camera, leave your VMP switched on till you're finished for the time being.

Not appropriate in some instances, but it's cheaper to replace a battery than to put wear on and eventually replace switches.

Cheers.

Guess that works too. :D
Am I the only one who finds the battery door ridiculously difficult to lock? Even the guys who sold me the mic had some trouble getting it on. haha :D
