Problem with .psd in FCP

I have created a photoshop file with several layers that I wanted to important into FCP to make a short animation using keyframes. The final (image #1) can be seen below.

I saved the file as a .psd so I would be able to key the different layers in FCP but when I bring it into FCP it looks it does in image # 2 below.

I googled how to .psd into final cut but didn't see what I was missing.

***EDIT:
In PS I put a color overlay over the duplicated images and used the shape tool to create the three bars in the top left. It looks like FCP is not accepting those properties. I tried saving as a .tiff and clicked for it to include layers. My image appeared as I wanted it, but I was not able to click on the different layers in FCP***

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Matthew

is the aspect ratio different?

i would build something like this in motion rather than FCP.
you'll get more options/control

1. FCP doesn't render Photoshop layer effects (e.g., color overlays, shadows, maybe shapes?). If you want to use those from Photoshop, render the layers before saving.

2. The pixel aspect ratio is different in the 2 pics

does anyone know how to merge multiple layers in FCP? I have like 10 layers on my PSD file and I'd rather keep it all in one.

I'm not sure you can merge them, but you can use them nested... otherwise, why not merge them in Photoshop?

If you create the clip in motion, you will have one merged file and not have to have 10 video tracks on top of each other on the timeline.
