problem with progressive

Last week for the first time I was shooting in progressive mode 576i/25p with Panasonic HVX200 on DV cassette and then captured the footage in Avid Media Composer in 25p project.
Jaggy horizontal lines are worse than interlaced frames. Out of Avid, in After effects and Windows media player, the picture is like it should be.
I was read in help that Avid converts progressive frames into interlaced frames when you press the play button. What is the point of progressive mode and project if you want the output on the tape?
Is it possible that Avid can't work with progressive mode or I don't know some tips for that? Is anyone have experience working with progressive project in Avid? What am I missing?
Thanks, Mia

External monitor is interlaced but picture is bad even on the computer monitor. And from After effects is good on both, computer and external monitor.

I suggest you ask over at the AVID thread, but this sounds like some proxy problem in AVID.

SD is always shown interlaced on a TV, but you'll keep the progressive feel in a psf wrapper (progressive segmentet frames).

The image _should_ look bad on the computermonitor, but not on an external, if you have a good setup.

But I'm not an AVID guy...

I asked at the Avid thread but no one is answering me.
You said that image should look bad on the computer monitor, but not on an external, why it looks fine in After effects on the computer monitor as well as on the external?
Gunleik could you explain me about psf wrapper?

This absolutely sounds like you got a problem with your field dominance: try to find the setting in the media composer and change it from "odd" to "even" or the other way around.
Sometimes its also its also called "upper"/"lower" field, dont know about this in the composer...but i think thats definitly your problem.

Practicly the footage is not progressive, it was recorded progressive natively, but directly after that its split in interlaced fields, cause thats the only way to "read" the lines for a standart tv(not like lcd or plasma, that read progressive)...so describing that everything is fine from AE(do you monitor it from there on an external monitor?), this will be your solution..!

Good luck and let us know...!

p.s.if this doesnt solve the problem: as you recorded to tape: maybe you already did a mistake when you captured from tape(and choose the wrong field dominance), but guess this is just a case if the lines appear on the tv from all editing programs...!

Field dominance should be set to "none" when capturing progressive media.

I am not sure about that, cause practicly its not without fields..it rather depends from the editing program: avid mostly upper field as i recall, and premiere for example lower field first...
