GH2 Problem with Plural Eyes and GH2

So I just got plural eyes 3 and I am having trouble syncing up the MTS files with WAV files from a tascam recorder.

I can sync up my MOV files from my 60d with ease, but every time I put in MTS files into the program, it crashes.

I am using Premiere Pro CS5.5 and I am exporting sequences to an XML.

Let me know what you guys think.

I'm regretting buying the Plural Eyes 3 since it is causing more headaches trying to automatically sync rather than manually doing so.

Hi I usually work with Plural Eyes 2 and FCP but I just had a client who was having trouble with my GH2 footage and PE 3 and Premiere. I heard they're still ironing out the kinks with PE 3.

Oops, I have a Tascam DR 100 MK 11, MTS files on the camera and Sony Vegas Pro 12. Any success with your problem?

The problem is probably not Plural Eyes. The two devices, camera and recorder, tend to drift.

A Note About Drift

When dealing with double-system sound and non-sync recorders, there is a chance that the sound will drift when put up against the video in post-production. Why? Well, it has to do with each device's internal clock.

Put two devices together that don't share a master clock (this is what "non-sync" means) and set them both to record at 48kHz. One might actually be recording at 47,998Hz (47.998kHz) and the other at 48,024Hz (48.024kHz). When these audio files are placed in the time line of an NLE or a DAW, where they play at an actual 48kHz, one will be playing slightly faster than the other. This can cause problems.

It can be fixed, but I'm not familiar with Premiere in adjusting the length of the audio files.
Many Tascams also have a setting to tell it how far the recorder is from the camera, by meters, so as to account for potential sync issues caused by distance.

Also, in case you didn't know, with MTS files once they hit the 4GB mark the camera makes a new file on the card. Those 2 or more files need to be joined together, either with your camera's included software or if your editor supports it. You can't just lay the separate files of a continuous shot side-by-side on the track (unless this is different with Premiere/can't in Vegas).

Not joining them properly causes a gap in the video/audio where the new file starts, which would also cause a problem with sync since the video and audio from the camera are not complete and won't align perfectly with the external audio.

for what's its worth....
I gave up on PE 3...and went back to PE2, which works for me...Im on a PC, using Premiere C6. I typically shoot an event with an CANON XA10 (wide) GH2 (closeup) and an external ZOOM recorder or Tascam. Ive found that sometime I have to increase the "gain" of the audio from the external recorders for PE to work. You may want to try that. If the audio gain from the sound files are not close PE doesnt work for me.
good luck.

Be sure to update PluralEyes when new versions come out. I had problems when I first bought it, but the updates have made the app work more reliably. BTW, I typically shoot AVCHD files with my GH3 and GH2, and audio with a Tascam DR-680 or Tascam DR-40. PluralEyes usually works fantastic for me.
