Problem with my beloved DVX - can anyone help?

Hi all,

I went out shooting today, had a great day and couldn't wait to start editing my footage.

Unfortunately I had that terrible sinking feeling we've all had at some point when you get glitches ona miniDV tape. Thing is, this is no average glitch. Oh no! It appears that my DVX100 is now glitching all the time, every few seconds. It happens when I record and when I play back a previoulsy fine tape - this will now have glitches on it. When you're filming you have no indication at all, its only on playback that it shows up. I have tried the tape from today in another camera though and the glitches have been recorded onto the tape.

The glitches are quite odd, they come up in little pink clusters, and very 10 frames or so, the camera skips and frames are missing.

Hopefully this is just a problem with the tape heads or something, what do you guys think? I'm based in the UK, near London - anyone know of a good outlet to get it looked at?

I got my camera 2nd hand, it has about 300 hrs on the clock.

It just so happens that Im in the middle of 2 projects with it and this is really gonna hinder my progress - hope to hear what you guys think.

Thanks in advance.:embarasse:embarasse:embarasse:embarasse

Hi - I've actually been using a brand new tape each time I shoot, as I'd heard that taping over is bad.

All fixed (hopefully) a good run with a tape head cleaner seems to have done the trick.

Although, I had already tried this for the 10 seconds it has written on the instructions, but just before taking it somewhere to be fixed, I ran it again for about 30 seconds and the problem is solved. Thank goodness!!

Good that you fixed the problem but 30 seconds of a head cleaner tape is possibly asking for trouble or some head damage. I probably wouldnt run it again.
