problem with iris "slipping"

I had an issue today during a shoot with a DVX100A where the iris started spontaneously dropping down to F16 or closed when I was trying to iris up. I figured out that if I irised up very slowly it would "stick", but a few times when I dialed a little faster it would slip back down to F16 again. Very frustrating...

...anybody else experience this problem? Could it be something mechanically wrong with the iris opening?

I should clarify this post by adding that the iris dial itself didn't actually slip downward, but on my LCD screen it showed the aperture dropping suddenly.

My DVX100a is doing the exact same thing -- I open the iris just a bit, and it suddenly drops all the way down to f/16 or closes entirely. . . anybody got any ideas about that?

Thanks,
Walter

Mine does that from time to time, especially outdoors... i will be in the middle of a shoot and all of a sudden my picture is overexposed - all the way open for some reason. what made my camera do this when I wasn't touching any controls?

Replacement part number VEP06E93B for the PAL version

Tried to clean the 'wheel' pot with no luck. Send it in for repair...
