Problem with HPX3000 and Wide Angle Lens

Hi,

I have a problem with a HPX3000 and a Fujinon wide angle lens (8x4,5). When I use the lens with our HPX500 everything is fine and the picture is perfect.

If I use the same lens on the HPX3000 it seems that the lens does not fill the entire sensor of the camera. I get dark edges in the corners of the picture.

Did anyone experience a similar behaviour of the HPX3000?


It is really strange because they are both 2/3 inch cameras and should have the same sensor size.

The 3000 has a full size sensor, where the 500 has a smaller sensor that doesn't need as much lens coverage. If you have an older wide angle lens without the 3:4, 16:9 switch, you may get vignetting at the corners.

But I think the dimensions of the senso should be equal. Because both cameras are 2/3 inch cameras. The only difference is that the 300 has a HD 1920 native sensor and the 500 does pixel shift and has not as much pixels.

I should have said "area of capture" of the chip. I found the same problem on old BetaSP cameras. The 16:9 and 4:3 cameras had the same 2/3rd inch spec., but an older lens on the 16:9 camera had vignetting, if it didn't have a newer lens with more coverage, or the 16:9, 4:3 switch. More noticeable in the wide shots. Frankly, I don't know why they made 16:9, 4:3 lens. Maybe, just to make more money. You don't see those lens often. The newer lens just had more coverage, so didn't need the switch.

But that doesn't answer the question why I get vignetting on the HPX3000 but not on the HPX500!?

They have both 16:9 2/3 inch chips. The chip size is identical. Only the resolution is different.

Try to do a shading correction (procedure is on HPX3000's manual).
Actual HD cameras, when shipped from factory, are presetted with white and black shading corrections optimized to work with lenses available on the market. An older model could require some in camera adjustments.

But I don't think that shading can compensate this because actually I can see the edges of the frontglass and parts of the sunshade. The 3000 is with the same lens somhow wider than the 500. That is whatmakes me wonder.

I use a very old Fuji A7X7BRM lens (ca. 1981 originally developed for tube cameras) on a SPX800 native 16:9 CCD's as you know. Trough the VF I can clearly see that image circle does not cover the whole sensor area with the lens set at the widest angle, but from 7.5mm onward is fine.
However, recorded images viewed on TV set or pro monitor show no signs of vignetting. Only hooking the camera directly to a monitor in underscan mode can reveal vignetting in the same way as shown by VF.
Have you noticed something similar?
