Problem with GF1 Hack forcing flash in PASM modes

I installed the GF1 hack back when it was released in July, and I'm using the stable settings I found on this forum. While the manual video option has been great, I recently ran across a problem when I was trying to use a flash and/or external strobe in the PASM modes of the camera.

Basically, if I go into the menu and try to force it, the flash option is greyed out and there is no way to select the different options normally offered. I presume that this is because going into the menu starts the hacked video mode and disables the normal camera options like the flash from working properly. The only way I could find to use the flash was to be in iAuto mode, but then I have no control over exposure.

Has anyone had this problem as well and been able to overcome it? Is there a way to use the video hack without the functionality causing this problem? Or will I be forced to choose between video and strobes?

Thanks for your help!

i am pretty sure that starting the camera starts the patch =) have you tried going back to original firmware to confirm? It could be a combination of settings that will not allow flash for some crazy reason.

No, I haven't tried reverting the firmware yet. What I meant by "starting the hacked video mode" is that the first time you switch to a mode, you can take photos, and pressing [Menu] and then exiting brings you into video mode where the shutter activates video capture. When I press [Menu] that first time, I see a menu for adjusting picture taking settings and movie settings, but after that if I go back into the [Menu] again, there is no picture taking setting area.

Can anyone with a hacked GF1 try to adjust flash settings in PASM modes and see if they are able to get the flash to fire at least (either on-camera or external)?

I've had no problems at all using flash with a hacked GF1. I usually put it in P as the flash doesn't fire if the shutter speed is higher than the sync speed. Adjustments like flash compensation, first/second shutter sync all work fine. Maybe you could try reflashing the camera and make sure you use the latest ptool release.

Download last PTool version and update firmware using it.
Initial hack version could cause such problems. But it is long way fixed.
