F3: Problem with F3 and Canon 17-120

I had a problem using my F3 with a Canon 17-120 servo zoom yesterday. The servo would intermittently stop functioning although the lens was still getting power through the PL mount (REC button worked, lights on the menu screen still lit up.) I was able to get the servo working again by powering the camera on and off a few times, but the servo would eventually stop functioning again. I put the lens back on my Amira and it's working normally. I called Canon and they had no idea what the issue was.

Anybody else have experience with this combo?

Thanks,
Kirk

I wasn't aware that this lens would work with the F3 - I have one with my F5 and it's a great combination.

Yes, camera was set to lens type "C". Talked to Sony service this afternoon and their only suggestion was to reset the camera.

I just tested mine as well;

I have always powered the 17-120 with that extra hirose cable it came with, to a d-tap cable on the back of my F3. And obviously it works great.
This is with Lens IF OFF in the menu. The minute I switch it to "type c", and plug the cable directly into the lens, I get the exact same symptoms you are experiencing. The lens literally zooms all the way in, and the zoom doesn't work. However the record button does.

I have just assign a record button on the camera, and just power the lens as I mentioned.

On the F55, it works as advertised, no need to use that addition cable.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, that's exactly what mine is doing now-about 15 seconds after powering up the lens zooms all the way to the far end and stays there. I'm curious as to why it worked for a while though. I had tested it several times, and then used it for about an hour before it went haywire.

Honestly, I never even tried it prior to seeing your post yesterday, I always power the lens on my f3, and then on my f55 let the camera power up.

It does seem strange how it works for a few second, then goes a little haywire. I believe my lens has the latest firmware in it, not sure about the F3s firmware, or if there is a new one to fix it.
