Problem with External Hard Drive!

I am editing using Final Cut Express, on a MacBook G5, and storing all of my imported footage and saved projects onto an iOmega external hard drive. My laptop has been inconsistent in registering the iOmega; usually turning the hard drive on and off works, but now I have tried unplugging everything and restarting both the hard drive and the computer, and the lapotp will still not recognize that the iOmega is plugged in.
Since I can't edit without it, I'd be very grateful for any suggestions!

Did you try to mount the disk manually from Applications < Utilities < Disk Utilities? If so and it still isn't working try using a different port to plug in to. Try using a different cable. Try using a different way of connecting (USB vs Firewire).

What is a MacBook G5? G5s are PPC Macs, and MacBooks are Intel.

iOmega HDDs are not noted for reliability for video editing.

Is it a FW drive? What interface? How was it formatted? FAT32 or MACOS extended?
