Problem with exporting to H.264 or .mov file in FCP! help!

I'm having problem with my machine... Everytime I try to export it to a quicktime file with H.264 compression my computer kinda flips out. When I click the file in my finder it just lags then quits quicktime then I cant open it. But it shows that it has been exported. What could be the problem?

I tried exporting it from compressor and FCP.
 
Are you using "quicktime conversion?" And have you tried the simple troubleshooting techniques (i.e. rebooting FCP or your machine).

yeah... it's been bugging for some time now. I can export a .mov file but it's the export to quicktime movie self contained file.

PLUS

I can export mpeg4 and mpeg2 but cant export using the H.264 compression. An ideas?
 
Try exporting it as as a standalone clip and then using Compressor to encode to H.264.
 
I already tried that but it doesn't seem to work. you think I need to update my quicktime or something?
