Problem with Boompole/Grip

So I just got my Rode Blimp setup in the mail... and had already received my boompole from a fellow DVXuser about a week ago.... and when going to attach them I realized I can't get the boom threaded to the grip because the plastic locking thing is too large for the area leftover from the XLR sticking out. see the picture below to understand.

What I am curious to find out is if this boom (gitzo g557) is just weird and most others have a smaller tightening ring or whatever you may call that piece.

I was looking at this boom as an alternative....

Most booms dont have have weird tightening mechanism. I have the Rode boompole and it doesnt have that, I also have used a similar K-Tek pole to the one you listed and it didn't have it either. I would say either cut away that mechanism or if you really do want to upgrade to an internal cabled one then go with a K-Tek.

Just remove the star nut and use the screw naked. I have a Loon and as Jared says about his boom, there's no retaining nut on its mount either.

If I remove the star nut the pole starts to eat the threaded screw when I begin to tighten everything together. The grip tightens all the way down on the screw, but then there is a gap between top f the boom and bottom of grip. When I spin the boom pole to eat up the rest of the screw that is showing it never fully tightens and is very wobbly....

I think I need to go with a different boom.

When I used that pole with the same grip I did this:

1) remove the screw & the retaining nut from the pole
2) place the retaining nut "grips" so that one of them fits behind the XLR input
3) screw the screwback into the retaining nut, keeping the retaining nut tight to the handle
4) screw the pole back on to the screw & tighten until the retaining nut tightens against both the pole & the handle.

I found that my pole would slip without using the retaining nut, but yours might not... If not- then ignore everything I've said!
