Problem With Aspect Ratio 16:9

Hi, I'm working in a NTSC DV 24p Widescreen (720x480, 23.976 fps) project, when I render in NTSC DV 24p Widescreen (720x480, 23.976 fps) the video is not good,,, too long and not tall anought,,, I'm trying to render in NTSC DV 24p (720x480, 23.976 fps)... now it's too tall!!!!

if I render in WMV, the aspect ration is perfect 16:9 like it should be..

BUT SERIOUSLY, I CAN'T KEEP A GOOD 16:9 ACPECT RATIO RENDERING IN DV... this is a big problem...

please help me!!!

thanks

There is a check box when you render that says stretch video to fill output frame size (do not letterbox). Is it checked or unchecked?

If it is checked try unchecking if it isn't try checking. I can't remember which one is right, but I think it is supposed to be checked for widescreen if your project is widescreen.

Personally, I'm having this same problem right now. I don't usually use squeeze footage, but I am.

Anyway, I finished editing a 16:9 video in Vegas 7, shot in squeeze mode. So I attempted to render out to a .mov, and also an uncompressed .avi. Both ways, I couldn't keep the aspect ratio the same. Both times, it would shift to almost 4:3. I'm pretty sure I set everything that needed to be set in order to keep it at 16:9, but it just won't go. Is there some sort of guide I could be linked to?

Did you output as pixel aspect ratio 1.21?

Did you have "Stretch video to fill output size (do not letterbox)" checked or unchecked? It whould be unchecked.

Yeah, it's unchecked when I try to render.

This is what I'm doing:

quicktime 7 (.mov)
render quality: best
I've been trying all different kinds of templates: uncompressed, 512kbps, etc.
currently using: 512kbps, 29.97 fps (though I shot and edited 24p), Sorenson 3 compression (medium), pixel as. ratio is 1.21, quality is 83%, frame size says 320x240

didn't touch the audio or streaming tabs.

So I render out, and the image is much more square and "squeezed". I'm not sure where I'm going wrong.

ah, haha. I thought 320x240 seemed a bit off.

So is that roughly the Video CD option? 352x240? Or is there another? Sorry for all of the questions.

EDIT: DUH! I can do custom frame sizes, right?

By the way, way to dig up an existing thread instead of posting a new one -- 17 months old -- that took some work!

Hmm... well, the picture quality is much better (probably because I upped the quality. go figure! ) but even after setting the picture size to Custom: 360x240, it's still 4:3. "...(do not letterbox)" is unchecked, it's 1.21, and 360x240. But still 4:3. *scratches head*

OK, is this in WMP?

How does it play if you bring it into Vegas?

WMP doesn't always display 1.21 correctly, and I haven't figured out the rhyme or reason as to why.

But you can do this:

Render as 427x240, square pixel (1.000).

Rendered as quicktime .mov, and when I bring it into Vegas after rendering, it's the 4:3 ratio, like it displays in a quicktime window. I'll give the 427x240 square pixel idea a shot really quick.

Unless I am going to DVD, I always render all of my masters out as square pixel aspect ratio, it's just so much easier and leaves no doubt as to what the video should look like.
