Problem w/ editing software.

Hey,

I'm a long time reader, 1st time poster here. Naturally, I own a DVX100.

However, to transfer the footage to a computer, I use a crappy consumer camera. Currently I've been forced to use a Canon ZR70(MC).

The long and short of it is that I can't seem to get this camera (the Canon) to work with Sony Vegas 6.0. I click on "Capture Video" and absolutely nothing happens. When I try using the internal Vegas capture software (by deselecting it's preselected "outside" .exe), the software doesn't detect the camera is there at all.

The camera does work with other capture applications (Like windows movie maker), however, I need the project to be in 24p and thus I need Vegas to capture it properly.

I'm a long way from home (shooting in the field) so buying something new isn't an option.

Anybody have some ideas as to how to fix this? Or ideas for some possible solutions?

Thanks in advance,
qqworld.

I have the same ZR Canon, and I have not had a problem with Vegas 6. I use it as a deck to import my DVX footage. Check the settings in Vegas for hardware control. Does Vegas say "Device not connected" ?

The two things to check are " Enable Device Control" and "Always Connect New Decvices" in the capture preferences screen. Other than that, check the Sony Forums click <Help> <Sony on the Web>.

This should be in the VEGAS Forum.

Nope, and I can't even see what menu you're talking about for capture preferences.

For the vidcap60.exe one (external) when I select it under the basic preferences, nothing happens.

When I use the internal one (deselecting that external usage button), the program doesn't see the camera. What's weird is that it sees it as a preview and print device.

Any ideas? I'll try posting this in the Vegas forum also... :)

I tried last night using my DVX100, and the same thing happens.

When I use the "internal" program, it doesn't see the camera: "Device not connected."

When I use the "external" vidcap60.exe, after clicking "Capture Video" nothing happens.

:(?????

Any ideas?

Thanks,

I use it mainly for the desk space. Other reasons:
1. Do a search and look for Firewire port failures on the DVX, there seems to be a design weakness in the DVX. Lower the risk, use a ZR

2. Head hours. 4 hours shooting equals 4 + hours capture. DVX head time is 10 times more expensive than a ZR.

DV format on tape is an industry standard 2-3-2-3 frame format. Your software handles the 24p and 24pa pulldown.

Another added feature, you can capture stills to the memory card off the ZR during a playback.

Even something as trivial as using the ZR as a rewinder saves head time on the DVX.

That's my 2.7 cents worth.
