Problem using both XLR inputs

Hi

I just hooked up 2 mic sets to my DVX for the first time. The problem is each XLR input is outputting only one channel of audio (Input 1 will put out the right channel, Input 2 will put out the left)

Is there a way to have each XLR input put out both channels of audio? If not how do i combat this problem?

Thanks!

Eric

I don't think there is but I think there's no reason to because you can do that in your editing software without problem and mix it any way you want.

the only problem i worry about is syncing issues because the mics would be kinda close to each other

I've never heard that concern before -- speed of sound and all -- but that's just me. You could move one slightly on the timeline and lock it in and that would take care of it.

Like Moe said - "speed of sound and all".

You won't have any sync issues. There might be some slight 'phase' issues with 2 mics close to one another but that's of the audio-engineering flavor.

Problem? what problem? Isn't that what you want? isolated sound channels?
If you mix them together, you have no way of seperating them in post. Once you mix them on tape, you're stuck with it.
The better your isolation is, the better off you will be. Leave it alone, keep it that way, your editor will be glad you did.

And there is no difference in phase or anything if you sum the channels in post or if it could be done in-camera. Exept that if it were done in-camera it could not be undone...

The only way to do that would be to use an external mixer and feed both mics into input 2 on the camera, and switch input 2 to go to both tracks.

But why on earth would you want to do that? That's just asking for trouble.

If there is a problem with the sound in one mic, all of your sound will be ruined. Keep the mics on separate tracks, and mix them together in post. You'll be glad you did.
