Problem solved; there are two versions of the 25/1.4, and the µ4/3rd one's firmware is 1.0.
Version display reveals GH2 body has latest firmware (1.1).
The 25/1.4 has the original firmware, 1.0
Panny's site (relevant page HERE suggests that the current firmware is 2.1
Accordingly, using full battery and newly formatted card, I have put the extracted file (ES000221.bin) on the card, and followed the instructions (for precision, insert card with camera turned off; turn camera on and press play).
NO VALID PICTURE TO PLAY greets me, instead of the Version Up display I am anticipating! What am I doing wrong?
