Ok, so me and my class were shooting something with my dvx today and my friend wanted to edit it on his laptop. So he got his firewire cable and hooked it to his laptop, but his program wasnt very good so I decided to edit it when I got home, so I got home and I hooked my dvx to the comp and it didnt recognize the device, i went to the program and it said the camera wasnt hooked up, whats the problem????

Make sure the camera is OFF when you plug in the firewire. Then turn your camera on.

Maybe your firewire cab;e is broken?

You shouldn't be capturing with your DVX anyway..

Good luck,

Robbie

ZR-100, ZR-500, any little handicam that you would get at your store like Zellers, Future Shop, Best Buy.

Can run from 200-500 for a decent camera. But, if you're just using it for capturing, then your good to go.

But why not capture with your DVX?
I have always just hooked up the camera from the firewire to my mac & captured it.
:undecided why is it better to capture from another camera?

Because you will wear out the tape heads. Like any mechanical device, over time they will wear out and break.

You're using a Mac? Load up System Profiler and check if the camera is being recognized.

If you wear out the heads on the dvx wouldnt you wear out the heads on the old camera? and then the quality would be poor anyway? just wandering. :)

The quality doesn't degrade. It's digital--1's and 0's--it's all or nothing.

And you would probably rather pay a couple hundred bucks to replace a crappy camera, than another 2 grand for a DVX.

im loading footage into the computer not capturing

so you are using hardrive? dvx doesnt have a hard drive. unless its firestore or something similar. You are capturing the footage onto the computer. try to plug in a differetn camera, make sure you connect the fire wire to the camera first and ground yourself. if that doesnt work then fw is shot.

Or the Firewire port on the DVX maybe damage, that has happen alot to people with the DVX, I know I'm one of them. You may have to just cough up $200 for a cheap mini dv camcorder.

Good luck.
