Problem Linking Segments

Guys,

I'm an entry level avid user using Media Composer 2.6.
The problem I'm having is that I cannot move video and audio segments (V1, A1 & A2) that are relative to each other TOGETHER without manually selecting all three segments. I tried turning "Drag sync locks" on and even played with the sync lock switches on the timeline and nothing seems to work. Logic would lead me to think that this type of thing should be automatic to avoid throwing everything out of sync.. but then again avid is very literal.

Please help!

Thanks.

I don't use sync lock. Ever. Seems stupid, but it has caused me more problems than leaving it off has.

I'm a little confused about what you are trying to do though. Are you just trying to move a series of clips in your timeline?

What you can do is put a break on the timeline, grab the red arrow move tool, then when you move stuff it will stop exactly at the break point on the timeline. does that help at all?

Basically I'd like to move audio and video segments together on the time line.

Like this:
............................ ...................................
V: ..[-------------] > V: ...........[-------------]
A1: [-------------] > A1: .........[-------------]
A2: [-------------] > A2:......... [-------------]
............................ ....................................

Instead, this is what happens:
.......................................
V ..................[-------------]
A1 [-------------]
A2 [-------------]
.......................................

Just select all three segments and move them. You can lasso the tracks you want to move so it's faster than clicking them individually. Or throw something into your source monitor, deselect the source side tracks, and insert edit for the length of gap you want. It will insert filler and push your video and audio down (assuming you patched tracks properly).

I see. You are from FCP, I assume. Avid doesn't lock it's audio and video together like that. Do what Butcher says.
