problem importing large p2 files with external drive as scratch disc in FCP

What do I need to do so that I can import a large p2 file with the scratch disc set to an external drive and get the file to show up in the project folder so I can work with it in FCP?

In FCP I use the import p2 media and can queue a file that is over 4 gigs it runs through the queue and if I check the scratch disc the quicktime with the corresponding file number is there. But the file does not show up in the project folder in FCP. It may be of note that I'm pulling this P2 footage from another External drive.

I did a test and imported the file fine when the scratch disc was set to the built in drive.

The computer is an Intel Mac 2 X 2.66 GHz dual core running OS 10.4.11. The RAM is 4 GB of 667 MHz DDR2. And the software is Final Cut Pro HD 5.1.4.

hmmm still no response. I suppose this is just one of those have to live with it scenarios. So now shooting any take longer than 4 or so minutes if I want to import it to final cut with scratch disc as an external drive.
