Problem connecting to firewire

I have had my camera for over a year now and have been connecting my IEEE 1934 firewire cable from my computer to the DVX. Recently I have been experimenting with the settings on the camera and I may have changed some things. I was wondering what are the correct settings that the camera should be on in order for my computer to notice that the cable is plugged in? I have just been experiencing this problem and I don't know if I changed the settings or if I possibly burnt out my connection port on my camera? If anyone could help me that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re-check that you have ALL connections and switches on the camera in proper condition (Pwr on, VTR switch in playback position, firewire plug secure on both ends)...a PC will "recognize" your digital device. (Eliminates your editing software from the loop.)

I'm not a Mac guy, but there is most likely the same simple approach to see if the computer recognizes your camera.

Everything is conected.. I tried with a few other cameras of mine and they seem to connect fine. I don't know what else to try ive done everything I can think of for hours. The last and only thing I can think of is I don't have the correct settings or the port for the cable is broken. Anyone else have any ideas or know the correct or original settings that the camera should be on in order to output video?

Your firewire port on the camera is cooked. You should have the PC and the camera off when connecting and disconnecting the cable, the DVX is notoriously sensitive.
