Problem capturing analog video

I need to transfer to digital an old analog video from a VHS tape.

As I have no other solution handy, I hooked up my VCR to the DVX100 using the S-video cable for video and the red and white Cinch cables for sound. The idea was to use the DVX100 a a digital tape deck, and everything seems to be working fine, except that the original analog video is in color, but all I get on the DVX is black and white...

When I use all three Cinch cables (the yellow one for the video signal), I do have color...

Any idea as to what might cause the S-video cable to discard the color information ?

All help will be appreciated, thanks a lot in advance !

It´s just a guess, but maybe your cam is PAL, and your video is the french format (was it SECAM?) which is compatible with PAL but gives you this black and white problem ( saw it once copule of years ago). 2 cents... Correct me if i´m wrong.

Darn !! Of course you're right ! Stupid of me... It has nothing to do with the cables but with the format of the tape itself... On of them is in PAL, the others have to be SECAM. Why can't the French do things like everyone else ?? ;o)))

Tks for the tip !

Wohoo! It´s strage i got something right from memory! Really happy to help Monglane!

And by the way, how it would be possible to fix this problem? I mean, how are you going to copy them if the signal is SECAM? For nex tips, you know...

Oh man, where are the smileys?

I'm just going to capture in black and white... Doesn't matter much if I have color or not. I just wanted to identify the reason for the problem.

Thanks again.

P.S. : I miss the smileys too ! Have to do them the old-fashioned way :o))

If you click on 'Go Advanced' underneath the QuickReply box, you'll get the smileys, and a lot more.   :engel017:   :thumbdown

Weird... I did and I don't see them. Only the "Post icons", even though "Smilies" (sic) are "On" in "Posting Rules"...
