Probably wrong forum, but Super8?

Does anyone have experience transferring super8 to digital? I want to film a few sequences to intercut with GH1 footage--not match obviously--and was wondering if anyone had experience with this; cameras, stocks etc. Or could point me in the right direction.

might be something useful here?

Do you have a projector? Look on ebay/craig's list for a cheap old used one.
Load your film and point it at the wall (or projection screen if you can get your hands on one) put the projector up close so it's a smaller/concentrated image -- roughly the size of your target output i.e. 1280X720 etc.) Then point your GH-1 at it, focus, record, and whammo you've got 8mm film with an AVCHD codec

I did this a few years back with a bunch of old family 16mm film. and a Canon GL-1 it worked surprisingly well..
cheers - good luck

Funny that you didn't get any interframe artifacts, because you are essentially taking something that is, in the case of 16mm, 24 fps, at 60i. (I don't think the GL-1 had 24p, or pa... ) but even with 24, one could have phase problems, as well as 'not really 24 on either side...)

In the case of 8mm, isn't the frame rate 16 fps?

Here's a quick search URL on 'deflickering'...

Actually I stand corrected, it was super8 footy- I used a Bell &Howell Autoloader projector (not sure of the model).

You're right the GL1 isn't 24P - but thats besides the point- I was just suggesting that in a pinch one could just point it at a wall and record the image. B/C of the nature of 8mm film being kind of beat up looking from the start - easily hides any framerate conversion issues- I honestly didn't notice much. Maybe I can post some clips.

i found it helped to reduce flicker by messing around with the shutter speed if you're going to record the projected image - try & get it in sync

On the other hand... one of the tricks to make video footage look like old film is to add the kind of flicker you are suggesting to be removed.
