GH2 Pro Photographer Promo - The Way I'd Want It Done

I was approached by a pro photographer here on Vancouver Island to make a short film about her and her business. This was a tough one for me as most photographers I know lean towards controlling things and directing action and so I was hesitant as my approach is very much hands off, documentary-style...but, she immediately said that she was giving me the reins to make something that was honest and real about who she was. Well, this is the kind of film work I really enjoy doing because...it leaves you vulnerable, but it means capturing some great great moments that can't be planned with staging or script. Erin told me later on that she was quite stressed after filming because she was used to seeing her results immediately and having to wait and leave it to me to edit her film was a new experience, but, she trusted me. I really valued that trust. Its something that you start building from your first client film, and it has introduced me to some great projects and people this year. So, having spent some time studying Erins photography style and the look of her photos I knew how I wanted to form the look of her film and I also knew how to mix her personality and her story into it to produce what I feel is an honest film about a real photographer doing great things for people. I felt lucky to have been able to work with Erin and create the exact kind of photographer film we both wanted. Her site: www.erinwallis.com

Filmed on GH2 over two days, Sedna A and Canister Majoris settings from Driftwood. Steadycam Merlin (in some crazy wind), Kessler Pocket Dolly, manfrotto 561 monopod, s.takumar lenses (50,55,135), Tamron 17-50 non vc, Panasonic 14-140, Tota w/silver umbrella for interiors. LCW II vari-ND outside. Edited and graded in fcpx. Neat video applied to a few clips.

@Bassman 2003
Yeah, the music really helps set the tone.
Also check out themusicbed.com they've got some great materials too. So many good resources these days.
I guess I should mention that I also publish my soundtracks and license them out, if you're interested.

cheers.

Very well done. Great story telling. The song adds a lot to the mood of the film, but the style of your shots and the grading very much match the music. Just a well done piece.

@blazer003 thank you. Coming from a music background I really value how the right soundtrack can enhance the feel of a film. Thanks for your comments on shots and grading. creating the whole package is challenging but rewarding when you feel you get it mostly right. Cheers.

Is every bored white female mom/photog a photographer of children and families? I'm missing something. Where are the real photographers?

Expertly done. I love the wide variety of shots and accessories used as it really puts a lot of character into the piece as a whole. The pacing is spot on as well - never once was I squirming to fast forward or click away. Also love the flares that are present in many shots. I used to shoot with lens hoods until I realized that I loved flares so much :)
