Looking at cheaper Tiffen series for in camera. To be used in portraiture, fashion, beauty for flare and glow. Anyone using specific strengths of filter for effect?

I used a 4x4 tiffen 1/2 black promist on these. bought it on clearance from abel for $50.

Just keep in mind that soft highlights reveal the problems with using 8bit. So I wouldn't reduce details settings as the banding problems will look worse. pro-most add a cool look but adding some grain may help out.

Sorry Zak but I have to comment... the Promist Filter has really flattened and degraded (un sharpened) the images that you have posted as frame grabs.

Seems to have "muddied" the images by killing tones and contrast.

Was there a script motivation to do so?

Keen to see how you grade them.

I'm not one to debate taste. But I think they are beautiful and well suited to the internal emotional conflict of the characters. they are intentionally low contrast -- we hazed the room in #3 and flashed the camera with a blue gelled led light in #1 and #2. these are straight out of the camera, but i don't expect a significant change when they are graded, other than to desaturate some of the highlights, tweak black level and nudge the color a bit.

If thats the motivation for what you did artistically and what you were going for...thats job well done.

Do post up what you do CC /grade in the end though.

BTW Zak - I am aware that screen grabs never actually show the original image / footage in all its glory.

In the days of Betacam SP I used Black Pro-Mist filters often, with my lowest rating being a 1/2 and often up to a full 1.0. With the AF I couldn't imagine using more that a 1/8 and plan on testing soon for an upcoming shoot and wonder if it will be necessary with AF setup possibilites and cc/grading options available today.
