Any fans of the game? I loved it and thought it would make great film material. Mike Newell is directing. News today that Jake Gyllenhall is going to play the Prince, which I think is horrible casting. He doesn't look remotely Persian. Even if you weren't going to cast an actual Persian actor, you could at least cast someone who could pass, like a young Keanu Reeves type. Perhaps it wouldn't seem so wrong if the movie wasn't called PRINCE OF PERSIA. It's like having a movie called Prince of Africa and casting a Mexican in the lead.

But dude, Jolie and the Prince in that rendering DO look somewhat Persian. I'm not saying you have to cast Ken Davitian, but Jake Gyllenhall!?!?
 
I think Adrian Grenier would make a good prince. Not sure why he doesn't get cast in many roles. He is excellent in Entourage.
 
Agree on the Jake Gyllenhall casting. Doesn't really fit the part. In fact I don't really like him as an actor.
 
Eh, I don't know. I figured with some make up he could do okay. I think he's an okay actor. Doesn't really seem like the action type though.
 
What the he$#? Jake Gyllenhaal? I vote 4 johnny depp as the prince (LOL)

Prince of Persia has always been a source of good entertainment and I love the video game. Unfortunately, I am already losing hope as they picked him to play a strong character as the prince.

I think Jake Gyllenhaal is an excellent actor, but he is not the face that springs to mind when I think of someone Persian.

Even in the clips Jake doesn't fit for the role. MAybe I'm judging it pre-maturely, but doesn't work for me.

It's like Hale Berry for Storm, but worse. While I didn't mind Halle Berry as storm, she obviously doesn't look like storm in the comics.

Then again, they also complained about Angelina Jolie in tomb raider. Not the greatest films, but I didn't care that they made her look different. I wasn't a tomb raider fan though, lol.

Same here. He sticks out like a sore thumb in this setting. Nothing against his skills as an actor, but he just looks obviously white bread in the middle of ancient Persia.

The clips do show some nice production values though. This looks like it has a really epic feel. If they would just cast a more appropriate lead in the role of the prince, maybe this could be the first actual good video game based movie. Halo and Bioshock are both on hold or cancelled, so there is really no other game to film adaptation in the works that seems like it has the potential to hit it out of the park.
 
I dont believe it's gonna be better than scorpion king part 1 and 2 ....
They might as well have used Seth Green with the long red hair..... or maybe he could do Red Sonja.....
