pricing on DVX when HVX comes out

Basically this thread is about what will happen to pricing on the DVX100A when the HVX200 comes out.

I just sold my XL1 so that I could upgrade to the DVX100A. I'm wondering if I should get one now, or if I could potrntially save a significant amount of money by waiting till the HVX200 comes out and the price drops a bit on the DVX100A.

on one hand, it would make sence that the price would drop some amount seeing as how the HVX200 is somewhat of a newer/updated DVX100A.

on the other hand - the HVX200 seems so far out of the DVX100A's price range that the consumer market may consider the cameras in seperate classes (consumer, prosumer, professiona, etc) leaving the cameras as non-competitors - hence keeping the price fairly close if not the same to what it was at before the HVX200 comes out.

I guess more simply-put - it may not be considered an 'upgraded' DVX100A. It may be considered a new type of camera. In that case, the price on the DVX100A probobly won't drop much.

Anyway, lets hear your opinions.

What i think might happen is that most DVX users will slowly start selling their used 100s in order to get the hvx. Check for my dvx on ebay sometime in october heh. There will be many more used 100s for sale when hvx comes out, i think. I am sure dvx street price will slowly go down also... Your best bet is to wait around and see what happens, it is only couple of months... Better yet go for hvx! Good luck!

The HVX is by no means a replacement for the DVX.

Pany are introducing a DVX 100B around the time the HVX comes out. There are other threads discussing what will be different on the new 100B, but noone knows all of the details yet.

I should think that used prices will definately drop, as many people will be selling their DVX100As to buy a HVX or 100B.

i dont think it will have any drop at all.. espescially since the 100b will be coming out. not that we know it to have any useable changes yet. but it may.

I think Panasonic is going in a great direction with the HVX (and I'm thankful for their efforts). however, not every individual or even company has $6-10k to throw around on a camera and I bet the dvx holds value just fine for quite some time. until memory goes up and price goes down on P2 cards, I'd rather throw around the extra cash on lights, audio, a decent tripod. And I bet there are enough like-minded individuals to support the value of the dvx.

For my purposes (and I'm on the list/buying a HVX from Rush), the future market potential for the100A will have zero impact on me. For interview/documentary, weddings, and some potential shorts the DVX will remain my camera of choice. Very little of what I have planned for the next year will be distributed beyond the Internet so I won't immediately begin shooting everything in DVC Pro or HD just because I can.

The dollars for my new HVX have not come easily but I'm not going to sacrifice a truly wonderful piece of equipment (which, I believe with the anamorphic adapter will make an excellent "B" camera with the HVX) over my own hysteria regarding what the price of the camera may become. Bottom line (and to clarify--I mean this as it applies to me, not to suggest what others will/should do), is that I will realize the full dollar value of the investment in my DVX by retaining it throughout its useful life.

I heard from EVS that the 100b is basically the same camera as the 100a except that it is better for the enviroment. Meaning that years from now after all the camera's are in some landfill the lead components and such wont damage the earth. I would think that if they made any improvements on any of the features they would be minor. But I could be wrong
