Price on Sony F5 and F55 After the Red Price Drop

Anyone want to speculate on the price of the Sony F5 and the F55 now that Red has played their hand?

I'm hoping that the F55 is around 30k to compete with the Epic. But we'll see.

I do not feel RED's pricing will impact Sony (or Canon's) intended market prices for their cameras. Sony/Canon have a lot to protect within their own line of products and besides, RED is geared towards replacement of 35mm film and sure it can be used for TV, broadcast, and whatever people want to try with it - but Sony's new line at least is a more hybrid approach providing the ability to do internal HD and 4k codecs and RAW for the people who will ***** about not having the option.

I see Sony/Canon as offering a little more than RED in this regard to be honest, but again RED is in it's own league entirely and it should be very hard to compare the two feature-wise or price-wise.

The Sony F's will continue to live long and prosper at the original prices intended. F5 above the F3 and F55 below the F65. The new F's are also a helluva lot of camera and there is no reason for Sony to be concerned.

But for fun and to speculate:

F5 - $18k
F55 - $30k
AXS-R5 $6-9k
RED dropping EPIC by $15.5k - priceless

30k?

Why so much? Cameras should get cheaper not maintain status quo. Common the BMD is 3K!

The F5 should be closer to 10K.

What status quo? Epic has only just dropped down to that price, and I don't think the C500 is even shipping yet. There's never been anything at this level and pricepoint before. Do you know how much camera $30k used to get you? Not a lot comparatively.

I'm guessing 20k and 30k msrp, with actuals being less.

Speculations on f3 trade ins? Would that be a hoot. And very unlike Sony but hey, one could hope.

They should DEFINITELY offer a credit for those who spent 3k on s-log. :)

Those are probably pretty good guesses ..but IF Sony wants the F55 to compete price wise with a "reasonably" kitted out Epic, their going to need to have the F5/AXS-R5/EVF combo come in around 30k. This is without media or batteries for either.

Yes sorry, without media, batteries, battery charger + lens mounts.

Like I sort of said, I don't even see Sony (to themselves) competing with RED. Still two entirely different classes of camera which happen to have "4k" in common.

Yes we would all love for it to only be 10k but let's be realistic:

The FS100 is $5k
The FS700 is $9k
The F3 is 14k
The F5 / F55 ???
The F65 is 80k

As you can clearly see the product line and feature set, the F5 will never be priced $1000 above the FS700 and below the F3. The F3 still has a very strong place in the market - don't forget, we are broadcasting HD right now not 4k which makes the F3 a very ideal camera plus its a super 35mm sensor.

I'll play.

F5 $25K
F55 $50K

But who really knows. Its Sony. Not altogether acting like Sony.

My guesses:

I honestly never believed that any camera could last in the market for over 5 years, but the RED ONE MX did it, and now looks like it will be the F55. I mean seriously, after that, what's next?

They should lower the price on the f3 and have the f5 beat the c300 and kitted out scarlet price. They'd sell a million.
f55 obviously would be more but they should beat the epic price. Then you would truly have a battle and sony would sell a million cameras, plain and simple. Make it 18,999. That would be hilarious. One can dream. One can dream.
